Definition

The purpose of the Shakti Dance Academy is the divulgation of, and enrichment through the practice of Shakti Dance®, by training teachers with a highly developed curriculum and advanced methods of academic discipline. The Academy also assists teachers in furthering their professional career as Shakti Dance® Instructors, Teachers and Trainers.

 

Personnel Profiles

Members of Shakti Dance Academy have distinct roles and responsibilities:

  • Administrators: manage and organize the Academy's Members, teaching material and academic resources.
  • Organizers: set up and guarantee the proper functioning of Training Courses at all levels.
  • Teacher Trainers: Certified/Associate/Professional/Lead conduct and teach Level 1 Training Courses for Teachers.
  • Interns: are studying to become Level 1 Shakti Dance Teacher Trainers.
  • Teachers: are those who have certified through Shakti Dance Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher Training Programs
  • Level 1 Teachers: Conduct regular Shakti Dance classes/workshops of up to 3 hours
  • Level 2 Teachers: Conduct regular Shakti Dance classes/workshops of more than 3 hours
  • Trainees: Level1/Level2 are studying to become Level 1/Level 2 Shakti Dance Teachers.
  • Students: are those that are enrolled in local Shakti Dance® Classes or Workshops (Practice Sessions) taught by Certified Teachers.
  • Members: are anyone that has registered on the website shaktidanceacademy.com
  • Basic Members: are those registered with Basic Free Academy Membership.
  • Academic Members: are those registered for an annual fee with an Academic Status
  • Academic Status: All Shakti Dance Trainees, Certified Teachers, Certified Teacher Trainers or Training Organizers.

 

Academy Membership

Membership has a duration of one year, from the beginning of the next month after the date of enrolment.

This entitles the member to the following benefits:

  • Access and purchase videos and music from the Academy Shop
  • Receive Newsletters with updates about Shakti Dance Activities,

 

Academic Membership

All those with an Academic Status must be Academic Members and renew their membership annually to validate their certification and maintain their status. The cost of Academic Membership is 60 Euro per year.

All Trainees of the Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Program must become Level 1 Trainee Members of the Shakti Dance® Academy for the duration of the Training or up to one year after inscription.

 

Level 1 Trainees with Academic Membership

This entitles the member to the following benefits:

  • Validation of status as a Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Trainee
  • Gain access to the website Reserved Area for Level 1 Teacher Training Resources
  • Access and receive discounts on purchasing products in the Academy Shop

Certified Level 1 Shakti Dance® Teachers & Trainers with Academic Membership

This entitles the member to the following benefits:

  • Validation of certification as a Shakti Dance® Level 1 Teacher
  • To be listed in, and promoted through the “Teachers’ Directory” of the Shakti Dance Academy website
  • Gain access to, and have permission to use promotional material provided by the Academy.
  • Gain access the website Reserved Areas for:
    • Level 1 Teacher Training Resources and
    • Level 1 Teachers
    • Level 1 Interns (only for L1 Interns & certified L1 Trainers)
    • Level 1 Trainers (only for certified L1 Trainers)
    • Level 1 Lead Trainers (only for certified L1 Lead Trainers)
  • Access and receive discounts on purchasing products in the Academy Shop
  • Receive Newsletters with updates about Shakti Dance Activities

 

Teacher Training Organizers with Academic Membership

(This Membership is for those who are not yet certified Teachers or Trainers, but intend to Organize Shakti Dance Teacher Training Programs)

These Members are entitled to the following benefits:

  • Validation of status as a Shakti Dance Teacher Training Organizer
  • Gain access the website Reserved Areas for:
    • Organizational Information Packs
    • Level 1 Teacher Training Resources
  • Gain access to and have permission to use promotional material provided by the Academy
  • Access and receive discounts on purchasing products in the Academy Shop
  • Receive Newsletters with updates about Shakti Dance Activities

Certified Shakti Dance® Teachers that are not members of the Shakti Dance® Academy will be listed in 2017 by name only in the ‘Teachers’ Directory to ensure the validation of their certification for this year, but they will not be promoted with any contact details and will not be eligible to access the Reserved Area of the Shakti Dance® Academy website.

Students may choose not to register as members, although for their personal benefit it is recommended.

All personnel, as per their academic status, have a set of “Terms & Conditions”. These Guidelines are published in the respective Reserved Area of the Academy Website. Guidelines must be acknowledged, accepted and followed.

 

Courses
  • Shakti Dance® Practice Sessions: Regular Shakti Dance® Classes or Workshops conducted by a certified Level 1 Shakti Dance® Teacher.
  • Shakti Dance® Practice Sessions (Classes/Workshops) (max 3 hours): conducted by a certified Level 1 Shakti Dance® Teacher.
  • Shakti Dance® Practice Sessions (Classes/Workshops) (more than 3 hours): conducted by a Level 1 Shakti Dance® Teacher with participation in at least one Level 2 Module.
  • Shakti Dance® Level 1 Teacher Training Program: contracted out by the Shakti Dance Academy to a Licensed Level 1 Shakti Dance® Lead Teacher Trainer, responsible for the execution of the Training. A Training Organiser may be employed to help execute the Training. The Lead Trainer teaches in the Training in collaboration with other certified Level 1 Shakti Dance® Professional and Associate Teacher Trainers.
  • Shakti Dance® Level 2 Teacher Training Modules: conducted by Sara Avtar (with guest teachers)
  • Shakti Dance® Level 1 Internship Training: conducted by Lead Shakti Dance® Teacher Trainer in collaboration with Sara Avtar

 

Discipline
  • Curriculum: Every training program has its curriculum, which must be completed by participants before certifying, before teaching professionally and before advancing to the next level.
  • Attendance: Every training program has its minimum number of attendance hours, which should be adhered to.
  • Certification: Every training program has Requirements that must be satisfied in order to certify and grant authorization to teach the discipline professionally at that given level.
  • Payments: The payment of tuition fees and any other costs are to be paid punctually.
  • Licensing & Contracts:
    • Trainers’ License: All Teacher Trainers (and Interns) renew an Annual License, which validates their Academic Status and authorizes them to teach in Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Trainings as trainers.
    • Training Program Licensing Contract: All Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Programs must be licensed from the Shakti Dance Academy by a Certified Lead Shakti Dance Teacher Trainer who takes responsibility for the correct execution of the Training Program, as per the conditions of the Training Program Licensing Contract. The Lead Trainer must contractually agree to follow the conditions of the Training Program Licensing Contract.
    • Organiser Contract: A Training Organizer may be employed to help execute the Training and must also contractually agree to follow the conditions of the Training Program Licensing Contract.

 

Trademarks and Copyrights

Trademark

“Shakti Dance®” is a registered international trademark of Sara Olivier, the founding creator of the Shakti Dance® Discipline, and the Shakti Dance® Endowment Ltd.

Shakti Dance Academy LLP, through its London administrative office, has the exclusive right and responsibilities to promote and protect the Shakti Dance trademark and copyrights. The right to use and promote the Shakti Dance® Discipline with the Shakti Dance® trademark, is granted to certified Shakti Dance® Teachers, certified Shakti Dance® Trainers and Shakti Dance® Training Organizers as per the Guidelines.

Use of Shakti Dance® Trademark:

The right to teach and create publicity under the trademarked name Shakti Dance® is acquired by gaining validated certification as a Shakti Dance® Level 1 Teacher and by signing and abiding by the Shakti Dance® Teacher’s Code of Ethics.

A Shakti Dance® Teacher, with validated certification, who upholds the Teacher’s Code of Ethics, automatically gains the right to teach and share with students, under the name of Shakti Dance® - through direct, but not indirect audio-visual, contact - the knowledge, skills, techniques and copyrighted Shakti Dance Method© acquired in the Shakti Dance® Teacher Training Program, through which that Teacher has qualified.

To share such Shakti Dance® teachings through audio-visual media, a teacher needs to be authorized by, and gain approval for their productions from Shakti Dance® Academy.

Copyrights

The Training Materials and the Shakti Dance Method® are protected by copyright in the name of Sara Olivier.

Training Materials:

Include Training Manuals and Teaching Videos provided for the Shakti Dance® Teacher Training Programs.

A printed copy of the Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Manual© is included in the Tuition Fee for the Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Program. The content of the Training Manual is for personal usage and study only, and is subject to copyright laws. Any reproduction, publishing, hiring or lending in whole or any part is strictly prohibited.

The Level 1 Trainee’s Academy Membership grants access to a selection of resources and Training Materials, in the form of extra documents and non-commercial Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Videos©, via online streaming in the Reserved Area of the Academy website for Level 1 Trainees. Teacher Training Videos© provided on the Reserved Areas are for personal usage and study only, and are subject to copyright laws. Any reproduction, publishing, hiring, lending or performance in whole or any part is strictly prohibited.

If the Academy Level 1 Trainee Membership fee has not already been included, then it must be added to the Training Program Tuition Fee in order to access the necessary online Training Materials.

Tuition payment for the Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Program does not grant the right to record and/or own audio-video of any of the intellectual property of the training content shared during the program. No videos should be taken of the Training Program Content by the Trainees during any Teacher Training Programs, without express permission of the Shakti Dance Academy.

Methods: The Shakti Dance® Method includes the modalities of form and content of the practice of Shakti Dance®, including each unique phase and their specific 8-Phase combination in a Practice Session, as well as Shakti Dance® Teaching Methods. These Methods are sovereign, copyrighted intellectual property. They can only be taught under the auspices of the Shakti Dance Academy.

Publicity: Every type of marketing, promotion or publicity must carry the Shakti Dance® trademark as per the guidelines.

Audio-Video: All Shakti Dance audio, videos or broadcasting must be approved and authorized by the Shakti Dance Academy before publication. They must be produced according to the guidelines and always carry ® or TM and Copyright information.

Specializations: The practice of Shakti Dance® embraces a wide spectrum of themes. Certified Shakti Dance® Teachers with special skills are encouraged to collaborate with Shakti Dance Academy, and, with the Academy’s authorization, to extend and deepen the Academy’s Curricula. In this way, specific branches of Shakti Dance® with Specialized Shakti Dance® Training Programs may be co-developed.

Any professional or commercial use of Shakti Dance® methods or techniques, in whole or part by certified Shakti Dance® Teachers, in any context - including in conjunction with other disciplines, or in specialized modalities - should be recognized and accredited, carrying the Shakti Dance® trademark in all forms of promotion or publicity.

 

Production of Shakti Dance Videos

Approved Promotional Videos of Shakti Dance®

A Certified Shakti Dance® Teacher, has the right to create and publish Approved Promotional Videos of Shakti Dance® to promote their Shakti Dance® courses, workshops, intensives, authorized trainings and initiatives.

Approval for the publication of Promotional Videos must be granted by the Shakti Dance® Academy, by fulfilling the Academy’s requisites and standards, before freely publishing and distributing a Promotional Video of Shakti Dance®.

Promotional Shakti Dance® Videos must only show short excerpts of exercises. They should not clearly demonstrate whole exercises or sequences of exercises or movement choreographies as practiced in the discipline of Shakti Dance®.

Approved Teaching Videos of Shakti Dance®.
Only Advanced Certified Shakti Dance® Teachers & Trainers, authorized by Shakti Dance® Academy have the right to create Approved Teaching Videos of Shakti Dance®. Requisites are given, and approval granted, to such Authorized Teachers by the Shakti Dance® Academy. Teaching videos are only to be distributed in accordance with terms agreed with Shakti Dance® Academy.

Definition of Teaching Videos: These consist of the clear demonstration of specific Exercises, Exercise Sequences, or Movement Choreographies pertaining to any of the Phases of Shakti Dance®. The demonstration of the above elements are done in such a way that the general public are able to follow and acquire the content of the video, experiencing the effects of the given Shakti Exercises or Sequence of Exercises.

Celestial Communications and/or Mantric Choreographies
A Certified Shakti Dance Teacher, has the permission to create Celestial Communications and/or Mantric Choreographies according to the Shakti Dance® Method©, providing that credit is given to the Shakti Dance® Method©. These may be published privately to a limited audience (e.g Facebook Friends only).

Only those Celestial Communications and/or Mantric Choreographies, created according to the Shakti Dance® Method© that have been approved by the Shakti Dance® Academy can be publicly published. Approval is granted when the requisites and standards issued by the Shakti Dance® Academy for the filming of such Movement Meditation Choreographies have been met.

No Celestial Communications and/or Mantric Choreographies created by Sara Avtar Olivier or any other Certified Shakti Dance Teacher should be videoed or published without the express permission of their creator.

 

Privacy Policy

The Shakti Dance Academy Privacy Policy is available on the Academy website. All personal information is kept private and is not shared with anyone, except parties who assist the Academy in operating its website, conducting its business, or serving its users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential.

 

Legal Disclaimer

Shakti Dance Academy and its agents do not accept any responsibility for injuries suffered during any Shakti Dance® Training program or while practicing the techniques of Shakti Dance®. Every participant must be fully aware of the risks and hazards involved and their own personal physical limitations and, if necessary, are responsible for seeking a doctor’s advice prior to participation. If there are any medical reasons preventing a student from full participation in the training program, this will be communicated to the organizer.

Shakti Dance Academy and its agents assume no responsibility for any losses or damages during any Shakti Dance® Training program.

 

Non Discrimination Principle

Shakti Dance Academy makes no discrimination on the basis of race, gender, nationality, religious denomination, age, sexual orientation or social class.

 

 

Shakti Dance® Level 1 Trainee Terms & Conditions

 

Shakti Dance Level 1 Certification Requisites:
  1. 180 classroom hours
  2. 40 hours of self-study* and written summaries
  3. Full payment of the Training Program fees
  4. Practice teaching of a Shakti Dance class with peer review from the trainer and fellow students
  5. Participation in at least 10 mornings of sadhana (early morning practice), during the training program
  6. In addition to the training program, attend 30 hours of Shakti Dance regular classes or workshops, with any previously Certified Shakti Dance teacher. The time period given for this completion is from 3 months before training begin, until 6 months after end of training.
  7. Completion of any extra Self-Study Assignments in order to recuperate missed classroom hours**
  8. Completion of any Follow Up Tasks after the Practical Exam
  9. Pass the Shakti Dance® Level 1 Practical and Written Exams***
  10. Complete all the training requirements no later than six months after the end of the Training Program. An extension may be granted by official request to the program organizer and Shakti Dance Academy.
  11. Final decision for qualification lies with the Lead Trainer and the Shakti Dance® founder Sara Avtar Olivier.

*The 40 Hours of Self-Study include:

  1. Personal practice of specified yoga-asanas and Shakti Flowing-Asanas
  2. Personal practice of specified meditations and/or Celestial Communications,
  3. Keeping a diary of experience during the practice of specified meditations and/or Celestial Communications
  4. Personal practice of specified Standing Sequences and/or Mantric Choreographies
  5. Reading of course manual or hand-outs during the Program
  6. Background reading of suggested books
  7. Short essays of theoretical nature and summaries of diaries relating to personal experiences during the 40-day practice of Shakti Dance.

**Trainees may miss up to 4 days of training to be admitted to the practical exam, but they will have to be recuperated as per the instructions of the Trainer. Certificates will not be issued until all modules have been recouped - even if the exam has been passed.

***The Final Examination Consists of Practical Exam:

  1. Leading all or part of a Shakti Dance class
  2. Presenting a specified Shakti Dance Mantric Choreography
  3. Developing, presenting and leading a Celestial Communication
  4. Demonstrate answers to oral questions
  5. Trainees may also be given follow up tasks after the exam to be completed before qualification and
  6. A Written Exam - Answering a written exam at home by email.

 

General rule for missed training days during Shakti Dance Teacher Training Level 1:

In the case of emergencies, participants can miss 2 training days, which they may recuperate at home. This is only if these 2 days do not include Curriculum Days 3, 6 or 7 of the Physical Body. If one of these key days is missed, they must be recuperated in another teacher training. Participants recuperating missed course time at home will be set Self-Study Assignments and personal practice relevant to the course material. This will then be submitted as an extra certification requirement. If more than 2 days are missed, these will need to be recouped by attending another teacher training elsewhere and/or at another time.

In order to be admitted to the final practical exam, participants can miss a total of only 4 training days. Otherwise they will not have the necessary experience. These will need to be recuperated as above.

Certificates will not be issued until all modules have been recouped - even if the exam has been passed.

 

Regulation for Recuperation of Missed Modules

A participant is entitled to attend any missed modules at any future Shakti Dance® Level 1 Teacher Training, providing they can follow the language (or provided translation) in which it is taught.

A student, having paid the full costs to their original Shakti Dance® Level 1 Teacher Training Program, may then recuperate up to 6 days of missed modules at another training, contributing only 25 Euros per day to the host training program to cover organisation and seminar-room rental costs.

If the student needs to recuperate more than 6 days in a different training, then they will need to pay the full daily tuition costs of the of host training program to that host program for all the days they attend that exceed 6 days.

Any further travel or accommodation costs will also need to be paid for by the participant.

Generally, the Shakti Dance® Level 1 Teacher Training and certification should be completed within six months after the practical exam of the original training.
However, participants may ask in writing for an extension of time to the Organiser of their original training and the SD Academy Secretary. This time period can be extended for as long as is necessary, but the Academy does not take responsibility for following up on the student’s progress.

If the agreed extended time limit is exceeded without further written notification on the part of the student, then the student will no longer be eligible for certification.

 

Academy Membership:

The Tuition Fee for this Training Program includes inscription for Annual Membership to the Shakti Dance® Academy. All Participants of this Training Program become Trainee Members of the Shakti Dance® Academy for the duration of the Training or up to one year after inscription. All Academic Members of the Academy are eligible to access the Reserved Area of the Shakti Dance® Academy website.

Qualified Shakti Dance® Teachers that are members of the Shakti Dance® Academy will be listed in, and promoted through the “Teachers’ Directory” of the Shakti Dance website (www.shaktidanceacademy.com). They will also be eligible to access the Reserved Area of the Shakti Dance® Academy website.

Qualified Shakti Dance® Teachers that are not members of the Shakti Dance® Academy will be listed by name only in the ‘Teachers’ Directory to ensure the validation of their certification, but they will not be promoted with any contact details and will not be eligible to access the Reserved Area of the Shakti Dance® Academy website.

Certified Shakti Dance® Teachers who enrol as members of the Shakti Dance® Academy may be granted authorization to access and to use the Academy’s promotional material.

 

Temporary Teaching Permit

Trainees that wish to practice teaching Shakti Dance® before receiving Level 1 Shakti Dance® certification may apply to their Lead Trainer and/or Program Organizer for a temporary teaching permit. In general, trainees may teach Shakti Dance on a non-professional basis during the training. After the practical exam and before receiving certification, students may be given temporary permission to teach professionally – for no more than six months. If the student has not certified by then, they no longer have permission to teach Shakti Dance®, until certification is acquired.

The Shakti Dance® trademark and/or logo must always be used in any publicity.

 


Training Materials:

The Tuition Fee includes a printed copy of the Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Manual©.

A selection of Shakti Dance Level 1 Teacher Training Didactic Videos© are available and accessible to Shakti Dance Academy Members, via online streaming in the Reserved Area.

Written permission may be given by the Shakti Dance® Academy to an appointed person to record Audio-Video during the program if the recordings serve to update the Academy’s online Didactic Training Materials.
